When I see a potential photo opportunity as soon as I look through the viewfinder I like to narrow down what makes the scene interesting. Anything that is not an ingredient to what initially caught your eye, is now nothing more than a distraction. So cut it out of your shot.

One of the most fundamental principles of photography is known as, "The Rule of Thirds". The Rule of Thirds is employed to balance your image and provide it with an interesting composition. Imagine that your image is divided into nine equal segments by two vertical and two horizontal lines. Try to position the most important elements in your scene along these lines, or at the points where they intersect. Some cameras even offer an option to superimpose a rule of thirds grid over the LCD screen, making it even easier to use.

You will find by following this guide that you no longer centre you objects in the middle of the frame. It helps you to be more creative and offset your focal point.

Blessed are we now with the digital camera as you inherit the ability of live view. Where you can see the scene your about to capture on your in camera display making it incredibly easy to adjust your cameras position to ensure the best photo.
